Grape Jelly BBQ Meatballs

Grape jelly BBQ meatballs get their signature sweet-tang glaze by slow-cooking frozen, fully cooked meatballs in a slow cooker until glossy. The sauce thickens into a sticky coating you can serve straight from the warm pot with toothpicks.

Ingredients

meatballs
  • 2 lb frozen fully cooked meatballs Use frozen meatballs that are already fully cooked for the fastest heat-through.
bbq glaze
  • 1 jar (18 oz) BBQ sauce
  • 1 cup grape jelly
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
garnish
  • 0.25 cup chopped fresh parsley Optional but recommended for a fresh pop on top.

Equipment

  • 1 slow cooker

Method

Make the sauce and coat
  1. Add BBQ sauce, grape jelly, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder to a slow cooker and whisk until smooth and evenly combined. Stop whisking when no jelly streaks remain, and the mixture looks uniform.
  2. Add the frozen fully cooked meatballs to the slow cooker and stir to coat them in the sauce. Keep stirring until most meatballs are visibly glazed on the surface.
Slow cook
  1. Cover and cook on LOW for 3-4 hours. Check partway through and stir once halfway so the sauce coats evenly.
  2. Alternatively, cover and cook on HIGH for 2 hours. Stir once halfway through to prevent hot spots and help the glaze cling evenly.
  3. When finished, stir until the sauce looks glossy and the meatballs are heated through. The glaze should look thicker and cling more noticeably to the meatballs.
Serve
  1. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley just before serving for a bright finish. Keep the slow cooker on WARM so the sauce stays bubbling and glossy.
  2. Serve the grape jelly BBQ meatballs warm with toothpicks. The lifted meatball should show sticky sauce dripping back into the pot.

Notes

Pro tip: use fully cooked frozen meatballs so the goal is heating through and glazing, not cooking from raw—this keeps the texture tender. Store leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days; reheat in a saucepan or microwave with a splash of BBQ sauce or water until hot. Freezing is not recommended because the jelly BBQ sauce can separate slightly when thawed. For a quick swap, use reduced-sugar BBQ sauce and grape jelly labeled no-sugar-added if you want a lower-sugar version.
