Ingredients

Frozen fully cooked meatballs
  • 2 lb frozen fully cooked meatballs
Sauce base
  • 1 can (14 oz) jellied cranberry sauce
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 2 tbsp sriracha
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp chipotle chili powder
Garnish
  • 1 jalapeno thinly sliced
  • 1 chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Equipment

  • 1 Dutch oven

Method

Make the cranberry BBQ sauce
  1. Add jellied cranberry sauce, BBQ sauce, sriracha, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, and chipotle chili powder to the slow cooker, then whisk until completely smooth.
  2. Set the slow cooker to LOW or HIGH and wait until the mixture loosens and becomes pourable, about 5 minutes, then stir again for an even blend (visual cue: no streaks).
Coat and cook meatballs
  1. Add frozen fully cooked meatballs to the sauce and stir to coat all sides (visual cue: meatballs look evenly glazed).
  2. Cover and cook on LOW 3-4 hours or HIGH 2 hours.
  3. Stir once halfway through cooking to recoat the meatballs and prevent thick spots (visual cue: sauce clings to the sides).
  4. When finished, stir until the sauce is thick and glossy throughout (visual cue: a shiny coating that slowly drips back into the pot).
Finish and serve
  1. Top with thinly sliced jalapeno and chopped fresh parsley (visual cue: bright green and red flecks on the glossy sauce).
  2. Keep the meatballs on WARM and serve with toothpicks, ensuring the sauce continues to look thick and shiny.

Notes

For the smoothest sauce, whisk the cranberry sauce and seasonings thoroughly before adding meatballs. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container up to 4 days; reheat gently on the stovetop or in the slow cooker until hot. Freezing is not recommended because the jellied cranberry sauce texture can change after thawing. For a lower-sodium swap, choose a low-sodium BBQ sauce and reduce the added garlic powder slightly if your brand is strong.
