Honey Mustard Cocktail Sausages

Honey mustard cocktail sausages with a thick, sticky glaze are quick to make by browning the sausages, then simmering them until lacquered. The combo of whole grain mustard and Dijon gives a tangy bite, while soy sauce deepens the savory flavor.

Ingredients

Honey Mustard Glaze
  • 0.33333333333333 cup honey
  • 3 tbsp whole grain mustard
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
Sausages and Toppings
  • 2 can (14 oz) cocktail sausages
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 chopped fresh chives for garnish

Equipment

  • 1 cast iron skillet

Method

Brown the sausages
  1. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat, then add the cocktail sausages and brown for 5-6 minutes, turning as needed until browned.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant, scraping up any browned bits from the pan.
Make and simmer the glaze
  1. Whisk honey, whole grain mustard, Dijon mustard, and soy sauce, then pour the mixture over the sausages.
  2. Simmer for 8-10 minutes over medium heat, stirring often, until the glaze is thick and sticky and clings to the sausages.
Finish and serve
  1. Sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped chives over the glazed sausages while hot so they stick to the surface.
  2. Serve warm with toothpicks, ensuring each sausage has a visible coating of honey mustard glaze.

Notes

Pro tip: stir frequently during the simmer so the honey mustard thickens evenly and doesn’t scorch at the pan edges. Store leftovers in the refrigerator up to 3 days; rewarm gently in a skillet with a splash of water until glossy. Freeze is not recommended because the glaze texture can break after thawing. For a lower-sodium option, choose a reduced-sodium soy sauce while keeping the mustard ratio the same.
